Beskrivelse: Fascinating, and sometimes funny, footage from a journey that captured the world's imagination. Fram, ready for the epic journey ahead, is shown by Akershus fort in Oslo. Then the dogs are brought aboard. Southward bound, the crew gets its first glimpse of drift ice. They enter the Ross Sea, observe whales in the Bay of Whales, and arrive at the ice shelf. Playful penguins give a show for the camera, before Knut Sundbeck's famous meeting with an emperor penguin, and a group of cheeky dogs introduce themselves to an understandably surly seal. At base camp Framheim, the dogs are prepared for the final push toward the South Pole. The sleds set forth, a photograph of the historic moment is shown, and the sleds return. Lastly, preparations are made for the long trip home.
